The Moral Failure Of Veganism
Veganism is morally bankrupt because it tries to mandate a lifestyle which is only available to the rich and then accuses the poor of “speciesism” for refusing to starve to death.
Even here in Portland — and this is one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the entire country — it is flatly impossible to achieve adequate nutrition on a vegan diet on a working class or independent student budget. I know this for a fact because I’ve been all over the Portland metropolis in search of affordable food for my friend who is deathly allergic to milk, and I’ve found that all things vegan around here are hip, trendy, and ludicrously overpriced. The only affordable option for milk-free eating is actually Asian food.
A vegan diet/lifestyle might be available to the upper class everywhere and to the middle class in most places, but it is not available to people of lesser economic means outside of a few rare places that don’t mark up vegan food with a “trendy tax”. Preachy vegans can shut the fuck up until they’re offering to buy me breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
